Zwane tells Nartway that Sangweni still has two to three seasons left in him at Pirates because he provides leadership to younger players at the club
Ex-Orlando Pirates defender Eugene Zwane feels ageing central defender Siyabonga Sangweni still has a big role to play at the club.
Zwane doesn't think Bucs will get rid of Sangweni, who can play for the next two to three seasons.
“Sangweni has been captain of the club, a trusted defender although we know that age is no longer on his side. He is a calibre of a player that I think can play another two or three seasons up to age 36 or 37, pretty much like Lekgwathi," Zwane told NARTWAY.
“He has not lost much pace, he still has the aerial ability and still a good defender. So, I do not think Pirates will get rid of him anytime soon,” he continued.
Zwane added that Tshepo Gumede is the future for Bucs at the back and is happy to see him getting regular game time since the turn of the New Year.
“Yes most definitely! Unfortunately he came in at Pirates and other defenders were solid and at that time he played a role of a cover defender,” adds Zwane.
“But he has grabbed the opportunity given to him with both hands. He was given one full game and turned it around and the next game he won the man of the match award [against Platinum Stars].
“So, I think he is a talented young defender and will command his place if he continues to perform well,” concluded Zwane.
